Mitchell Memorial Library

The following policies apply to all rooms.

  • You must be affiliated with Mississippi State University (and have a netID and netPassword) to reserve a room.
  • Reservations take priority. All other use is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please remember to check in to your room when you arrive and check out when you leave. Instructions will be in your confirmation email.
  • Please leave the room as you found it and dispose of all trash.
  • If you no longer need a space you have reserved, please cancel so that others can use it.
  • When using MSU Libraries’ technology (computer, TV, etc.), you must adhere to Mississippi State University's policy on Use of Information Technology Resources, including refraining from illegal downloading or sharing of copyrighted materials; using IT resources to harass or threaten others; downloading or displaying obscene or pornographic material; accessing (or attempting to access), altering, interfering with the operation of, damaging, or destroying all or party of any IT resource; using (or attempting to use) someone else's account, password, access code, or other credentials, or electronically impersonating others; commercial advertising or political campaigning.
  • Failure to follow the Libraries' policies and take care of the rooms will result in a ban from the room reservation system.

Classrooms

Managed by Access and Information

  • The person responsible for reserving the room must sign in prior to using the room and MUST sign out when use has been completed.
  • For Fall and Spring semesters: No bookings by individuals or groups outside of MSU Libraries except for classroom instruction (between 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday). For classroom instruction requests, the rooms can only be booked 8 times or 15 hours per semester per class.
  • For Maymester and Summer sessions: No non-library requests will be approved during the first week of each term. After the first week, professors or instructors may request the rooms for instructional use only, for no more than 5 times or a total of 10 hours per class.

Specific classroom policies

  • Auditorium
    • Students may not reserve this room.
  • ELI/Giles
    • No food or drink is allowed.
    • For Maymester and Summer sessions: After the first week, a group or individual seeking the room for extended sessions, such as a conference or orientation, may request ELI or Giles for up to one week per session. Requests for both rooms will not be approved.

Presentation Rooms

  • Rooms are available for reservation by MSU faculty, staff, or students during Library hours (including nights and weekends) on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The person responsible for reserving the room must sign in prior to using the room and MUST sign out when use has been completed.

Specific presentation room policies

  • Presentation Room 1405
    • For Fall and Spring semesters: For classroom instruction requests, the rooms may only be booked 8 times or 15 hours per semester per class.
    • For study groups, the room may only be reserved for a maximum of 4 hours per group.

Meeting and Study Rooms

  • Any MSU-affiliated student, faculty, or staff can reserve these rooms.
  • Rooms are for groups of two or more people.
  • Rooms are intended to provide unique space for collaborative work and study for classroom or research related activities - they may not be used for semester-long instruction or office hours.
  • Study groups may reserve the room once per day, for a maximum of 2 hours per group per day.
  • Wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and dry-erase marker and eraser packs are available for checkout at the Access and Information Desk.
  • If you are using a room equipped with a TV, you must keep the volume at an appropriate level.

Studio Spaces

Specific studio space policies

  • AV Studio
    • Reservations are required.
    • Reserve the AV studio in blocks of up to 2 hours.
  • Collaboration Studio
    • Use the Collaboration Studio in groups of 8 or more people for formal instruction, collaborative work or study, for classroom or research-related activities.
    • Students may book the space only 8 times or 16 hours per semester.
  • TV Studio

Special Rooms

  • All reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.
  • Reservations can last no more than 8 hours.
  • Use of MSU Libraries' Special Rooms is subject to a charge, dependent on the length and purpose of your reservation.
  • A MSU Libraries staff member will consult with you about your event and the resources required for setup, and confirm your reservation.
  • Fees are calculated and invoiced after your reservation is confirmed. All fees will be charged to your personal or appropriate departmental Banner account.

Old Main Academic Center

Managed by Old Main Academic Center Coordinator and the Office of the Registrar

  • You must be affiliated with Mississippi State University to reserve a room.
  • Reservations take priority. All other use is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please leave the room as you found it and dispose of all trash.
  • If you no longer need a space you have reserved, please cancel so that others can use it.

  • Intended to provide unique space for collaborative work and study for classroom or research related activities - may not be used for semester-long instruction or office hours.
  • Rooms are for groups of two or more people. If you alone are using a room, you must leave immediately if a group asks to use it.
  • If you are using a room equipped with a TV, you must keep the volume at an appropriate level.

Other Rooms

    • The Office of the Registrar handles regular classroom scheduling. When not being used for specific classes, MSU faculty and staff can request reservations for meetings, presentations, and special academic events.
  • Turner A. Wingo Auditorium

    • The Office of the Registrar handles regular classroom scheduling. When not being used for specific classes, MSU faculty and staff can request reservations for meetings, presentations, and special academic events. Requests are reviewed by the Old Main Academic Center Coordinator.
    • Use of the Auditorium is subject to a rental fee. Weekend use may incur additional fees.
    • Limited food and beverage service is allowed but requires prior approval.
  • Amphitheatre

    • Use of the Amphitheatre is subject to a rental fee. Weekend use may incur additional fees.
