MISSISSIPPI STATE, MISS. – February 4, 2016 – The Mississippi State University Libraries Special Collections Department is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit entitled HIGH NOTES: Treasures from the Music Collections.
Included in the display are a variety of treasures from the Mississippi State University Libraries Special Collections, drawn from the Manuscripts, Rare Books and Mississippiana departments, the University Archives, and the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library. Highlights include a leaf from a medieval choir book; an early example of the Choctaw Hymn Book; Civil War-era songs from the North and the South, including Northern broadsides from the Ted Grieder Collection; and a broad variety of popular sheet music from c. 1850 - 1967.
The exhibit is on display on the third floor of Mitchell Memorial Library. It begins in the case outside the Dean’s office, and continues inside Special Collections (open 7:30-5 PM Monday-Friday) and outside the John Grisham Room. It will be available to view until the end of March.
