The Mississippi State University Libraries Special Collections Department is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit entitled FROM PICKLES TO PUDDING: A CELEBRATION OF HOME AND HOLIDAY COOKING.
Included in the display are a variety of treasures from the Mississippi State University Libraries Special Collections, drawn from the Manuscripts and Mississippiana departments as well as the University Archives. Highlights include a handwritten cookbook featuring a recipe for chocolate cake; several individual handwritten recipes for a variety of dishes, including three from one of the more unusual items in a Manuscript collection: a small notebook in the Carl and Dixie Butler collection that is a palimpsest of domestic activity from the late 18th to the early 20th centuries, and two of the recipes come from the collection of Rosie Lee Jackson, mother of Nancy Bardwell, of Research Services; an array of community cookbooks from across Mississippi; and photographs of food and cooking activities in Mississippi.
Also featured are some vintage holiday postcards from the T.H. Smith Postal History Collection.
The exhibit is on display on the third floor of Mitchell Memorial Library. It begins in the case outside the Dean’s office, and continues inside Special Collections (open 7:30-5 PM Monday-Friday). It will be available to view through January.
