Library Pauses Donations While Working on Backlog and Policy

Countless donations and gifts from generous patrons and donors have led to a cataloging backlog. And while that is a wonderful problem to have, the MSU Libraries is asking donors to refrain from making any further book and other material donations to the MSU Libraries for the present, with the exception of rare or valuable scholarly materials and other materials for our Special Collections and University archives.

According to Dr. Ray Uzwyshyn, Associate Dean for Collection Management & Strategy, this pause will allow the Libraires to address a larger backlog of donated materials and review our donation policy.

“We are deeply appreciative of the continuing support that our donors have provided, and we look forward to the possibility of welcoming suitable donations for our library collections in the future,” Uzwhshyn said. “If you have any questions or would like to discuss the potential donation of particularly rare, noteworthy, or valuable materials, please do not hesitate to reach out to Cathy Austin, Coordinator of Acquisitions & Collections Development at caustin@library.msstate.edu or David Nolen, Associate Dean, Archives and Special Collections, dnolen@library.msstate.edu. We would be more than happy to evaluate any donation for the areas described.”
