Personal Camera Use
You may photograph unrestricted materials using your personal camera under the following conditions.
- Click the link above to download the Personal Camera Reproduction Record, list each item you photograph, and submit the record to the Archives and Special Collections reference desk.
- You may only use a hand-held portable camera. Staff may permit you to use a tabletop tripod at their discretion.
- Do not use flash or other outside lights in the reading rooms.
- Do not disturb other patrons, place yourself or others in jeopardy, or take measures that might damage our rooms and equipment (such as standing on furniture).
- Abide by our handling procedures, and do not endanger materials.
- You must abide by any restrictions governing the research use of individual collections.
- You may use your photographs for private research use. Your photographs may not be published or added to another library or repository. You can request high-quality images for publication or broadcast.
- You may not use scanners or other imaging equipment in the reading rooms.
- We reserve the right to prohibit the photographing of any of our holdings.
- Items from the 20th and 21st centuries may contain sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right-to-privacy laws and regulations. You are responsible for any legal ramifications arising from disclosure of this information without the consent of the individuals involved.
- Most manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs and moving images created since 1923 are protected under US Copyright Law. Transmission, reproduction, publication, or presentation (public display, performance, Internet presentation) of protected items require the permission of the copyright owners. It is your responsibility to obtain permissions.
