The sounds of big band and swing from the Benny Goodman era, the Boogie and Rockabilly music in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis, and – as always – traditional ragtime and jazz will highlight the 2023 Charles H. Templeton, Sr. Ragtime & Jazz Festival. This year’s festival will open Thursday, March 23 with the Gatsby Gala, and run March 24 and 25, 2023. Also, join us for the inaugural two-day Business of Music Symposium being held on March 22 and 23. This inaugural multidisciplinary Symposium encourages and supports research and scholarship on topics supported by the Charles H. Templeton, Sr. "Business of Music" Collection.
The Charles Templeton Ragtime Jazz Festival is sponsored by the MSU Libraries and the Charles Templeton Sr. Music Museum as a means of enhancing the research in the area of ragtime music, increasing the awareness of the Templeton collection housed in the MSU Library and introducing people to the sounds of Ragtime being performed by world-renowned ragtime musicians.
The festival is comprised of a blend of major concerts, mini-concerts, seminars and tours of the Music Museum. Seminars are held in Mitchell Memorial Library and major concerts are held at the McComas Hall Auditorium on the MSU Campus.
